Katana Toshiie Folded Steel Clay Tempered Blade with Notare Wave Hamon | KSA Jiang
KSA “Jiang” Series Katana – Toshiie | Folded Steel (Damascus) Clay Tempered Blade | Real Wave Hamon | Green Ishime Saya | Genuine Rayskin | Authentic Kissaki Structure | Martial Arts Practice
Toshiie katana is named in honor of Maeda Toshiie (1538–1599), one of the most distinguished generals of Japan's Sengoku period and the founder of the powerful Kaga Maeda clan. Renowned for his loyalty, courage, and leadership, Toshiie served both Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, earning lasting respect as a model of samurai honor. Bearing his name, this katana pays tribute to his enduring legacy through a design that reflects refinement, resilience, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Forged from folded steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade reveals a refined jihada created through repeated folding and careful forging. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a graceful Real Notare hamon, whose gentle undulating temper line flows naturally along the cutting edge like rolling waves. The folded steel grain and authentic hamon complement one another, showcasing the timeless artistry of traditional Japanese swordsmithing.
The koshirae is centered around a Mokkō-gata brass tsuba featuring the Hidari Mitsudomoe crest. The ancient tomoe emblem symbolizes protection, continuity, and the cyclical flow of life. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the traditional Kyō Ajiro pattern inspired by Kyoto's woven craftsmanship. A polished brass habaki completes the mounting, harmonizing naturally with the warm tones of the fittings.
The tsuka is wrapped in white cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a clean and elegant appearance while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a traditional Green Ishime lacquer, whose stone-textured surface reflects the quiet beauty of moss-covered forests and mountain landscapes. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, reinforcing the sword's balanced and timeless aesthetic.
